Carbinoxamine Maleate, Dextromethorphan Hbr, Ammonium Chloride, Sodium Citrate

This medication combines four active ingredients: Carbinoxamine Maleate, Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide (HBr), Ammonium Chloride, and Sodium Citrate. It is used to alleviate symptoms of allergies, colds, and respiratory conditions.

Indications

-Relief from symptoms of allergic rhinitis, such as sneezing, runny nose, and itchy eyes. -Cough suppression. -Alleviation of chest congestion. -Reduction of mucus and phlegm in the respiratory tract.


Dosage

Adults and children 12 years and older: 10 mL (2 teaspoons) every 4 to 6 hours, not to exceed 60 mL in 24 hours. Children 6 to 12 years: 5 mL (1 teaspoon) every 4 to 6 hours, not to exceed 30 mL in 24 hours. Children 2 to 6 years: Consult a physician for appropriate dosage. Children under 2 years: Not recommended.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients. -Patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention, severe hypertension, or severe coronary artery disease. -Use during or within 14 days of taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).


Special Precautions

-Use caution in patients with a history of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or other respiratory conditions. -Use with caution in elderly patients and those with renal or hepatic impairment. -Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants while taking this medication. -Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women unless prescribed by a physician.


Side Effects

-Common: Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, and constipation. -Severe: Difficulty breathing, chest pain, irregular heartbeat, confusion, or severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling).


Drug Interactions

-May interact with other CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, sedatives, tranquilizers). -Increased risk of serotonin syndrome when combined with serotonergic drugs (e.g., SSRIs, SNRIs). -Interactions with antihypertensive medications, potentially reducing their effectiveness.
