Cefalexin
Cefalexin is a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This medication is not effective against viral infections.-Respiratory tract infections -Skin and soft tissue infections -Bone and joint infections -Urinary tract infections -Otitis media (middle ear infections)
The dosage of cefalexin can vary depending on the type and severity of the infection as well as the patient's age and renal function. Typical adult doses range from 250 mg to 500 mg every 6 hours. Always follow the prescription and guidance of a healthcare provider.
-Known hypersensitivity to cefalexin, other cephalosporins, or penicillin -Severe renal impairment without appropriate dosage adjustment
-Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis -Monitor renal function in patients with renal impairment -Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, including fungi
-Gastrointestinal upset (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea) -Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling) -Dizziness -Fatigue
-May interact with certain diuretics, such as furosemide, affecting renal function -May alter the effects of blood thinners like warfarin -Antacids may interfere with absorption if taken simultaneously
