Cefoperazone Sodium

It is a broad spectrum antibiotic,with high clinical eficacy and good toleration profile.Can be administered as monotherapy or combination theapy in infections.

Indications

Respiratory tract infections,U.T.I., Peritonitis,cholecystitis,cholangitis and other intra abdominal infections ;Septicemia, Meningitis, Skin and soft tissue infections;Infections of bones and joints; Pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, gonorrhea.


Dosage

1gm or 2gm every 12 hrs.Severe infections: 8 gm per day.Gonococcal urethritis:500mgI.M single dose.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins and penicillins


Special Precautions

Severe biliary obstruction or hepatic disease, Prothrombin time should be monitored, premature infants and neonates. Paediatrics: Safety not established in age below 12 years. Pregnancy: Use only, if clearly indicated. Lactation: Use with caution; secreted in breast milk in low amounts.


Side Effects

Allergic reactions,reversible neutropenia, Transient rise in SGOT,SGPT & alkaline phosphatase,eosinophilia,positive direct Coomb's test, anemia & reduced hematocrit.


Drug Interactions

Enhances nephrotoxicity by aminoglycosides, Disulfiram-like reaction with alcohol. Potentiates anticoagulants.
