Ceftibuten
It is a semi-synthetic, third generation cephalosporin for oral administration.Infections caused by susceptible micro-organisms in URTI, UTI, enteritis and gastro-enteritis.
Adults: 400 mg once a day. Community acquired pneumonia: 200 mg every 12 hours. Children: 9mg/kg body weight per day as a single dose. Max. 400 mg daily. Bacterial enteritis: Daily dose given in two divided doses every 12 hours.
Hypersensitivity.
Prescribe with caution to persons with complicated GI diseases, particularly chronic colitis. Pregnancy: Safety not established. Lactation: Not detected in lactating mothers’ milk. Elderly: Use with caution.
Nausea, diarrhoea, headache, rarely dyspepsia, gastritis, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, serum sickness like disorders.
Antibiotic medicines can cause diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you have diarrhea that is watery or has blood in it, call your doctor. Do not use any medicine to stop the diarrhea unless your doctor has told you to. Before taking ceftibuten, tell your doctor if you are taking any medication that reduces stomach acid, such as: cimetidine (Tagamet); famotidine (Pepcid); omeprazole (Prilosec); or ranitidine (Zantac), and others.
