Cetirizine
Cetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine used primarily for the treatment of allergies such as hay fever (allergic rhinitis), hives (urticaria), and allergic conjunctivitis.-Allergic rhinitis (hay fever) -Urticaria (hives) -Allergic conjunctivitis
-Adults and children over 12 years: 10 mg once daily. -Children aged 6-12 years: 5-10 mg once daily depending on weight and severity of symptoms. -Children aged 2-6 years: 2.5-5 mg once daily. -Dosage adjustments may be necessary for individuals with renal impairment.
-Hypersensitivity to cetirizine or hydroxyzine. -Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 10 mL/min).
-Use with caution in elderly patients and those with hepatic impairment. -Avoid alcohol while taking cetirizine. -Use caution when operating machinery or driving due to potential drowsiness.
Common side effects may include drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, and gastrointestinal discomfort.
-Cetirizine may interact with other medications that cause drowsiness, such as sedatives, hypnotics, and alcohol. -Use caution with CNS depressants.
