Choline salicylate

Choline Salicylate is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) commonly used for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is often used to relieve pain and inflammation associated with conditions such as arthritis, muscle pain, and dental pain.

Indications

-Relief of pain and inflammation in musculoskeletal conditions -Dental pain relief -Treatment of mild to moderate pain -Fever reduction


Dosage

-Adults: The usual dose is 870 mg to 1.16 g (equivalent to 1 g to 1.33 g of Choline Salicylate) taken orally every 3 to 4 hours as needed. The maximum dose should not exceed 8 grams per day. -Children: The dose should be adjusted based on the child’s weight and age. Consult a pediatrician for appropriate dosing.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to salicylates or NSAIDs -Active peptic ulcer disease -Severe renal or hepatic impairment -History of gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation related to previous NSAID therapy -Pregnancy (especially in the third trimester) -Breastfeeding


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disorders -Monitor for signs of gastrointestinal bleeding -Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment -Not recommended for use in children with viral infections due to the risk of Reye’s syndrome -Avoid alcohol consumption as it may increase the risk of gastrointestinal side effects


Side Effects

-Gastrointestinal discomfort (nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia) -Gastrointestinal bleeding or ulceration -Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling) -Dizziness or headache -Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)


Drug Interactions

-Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin) may increase the risk of bleeding -Other NSAIDs or salicylates increase the risk of gastrointestinal side effects -Methotrexate toxicity may be increased -Diuretics and antihypertensive medications may have reduced efficacy -Corticosteroids may increase the risk of gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding
