Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride
Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase, thereby preventing bacterial replication and growth.Treatment of infections caused by susceptible strains of bacteria, including: -Urinary tract infections -Respiratory tract infections -Skin and soft tissue infections -Bone and joint infections -Gastrointestinal infections -Typhoid fever
-Adults: Typically 250-750 mg orally every 12 hours, depending on the infection's severity and type. -Pediatric: Dosage must be determined by a healthcare provider based on the child’s weight and the type of infection.
-Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other quinolones -History of tendon disorders related to quinolone use -Severe renal impairment without dose adjustment -Pregnant or breastfeeding women (unless benefits outweigh risks)
-Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures or epilepsy. -Monitor for signs of tendon damage, especially in elderly patients or those on corticosteroids. -Ensure adequate hydration to reduce the risk of crystalluria.
-Common: Nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness -Serious: Tendon rupture, hypersensitivity reactions, seizures, liver dysfunction
-May interact with antacids, iron, or zinc supplements, reducing absorption. -Can increase the effects of anticoagulants like warfarin. -May interact with cyclosporine, increasing the risk of nephrotoxicity.
