Citalopram
It is an antidepressant, which selectively inhibits the reuptake of serotonin(5-hydroxytryptamine) into presynaptic nerve terminals, thus potentiating serotonergic neurotransmission. Primarily citalopram has been evaluated in the treatment of major depression.Treatment of depressive illness in the initial phase and as maintenance against potential relapse/recurrence. Treatment of panic disorder with or without agarophobia.
Depression : Adults : 20mg should be administered as a single oral dose may be increased to a maximum of 60mg daily. Panic disorder : A single dose of 10mg daily is recommended for the week before increasing the dose to 20mg daily. Upto a maximum of 60mg daily dependent on individual patient response. Maximum effectiveness in treating panic disorder is reached after about 3 months and the response is maintained during continued treatment. Elderly patients : The recommended daily dose is 20mg
Hypersensitivity.
Should not be given to patients receiving monoamine oxidase inhibitors, or for 14 days after their discontinuation. Pregnancy and lactation.
