Clotrimazole

It is a synthetic imidazole derivative. It is primarily used locally in the treatment of skin infections and vaginal infections due to yeasts and dermatophytes. In addition it has activity against certain gram positive bacteria and trichomonas spp.

Indications

Fungal infections ofskin, hair & vagina. Dusting powder for prevention of athlete’s feet and ringworm of skin folds. Cutaneous candidiasis. Candida vulvo vaginitis.

Dosage

Cream or solution to be applied 2-3 times daily for 3-4 wks.

Contra-Indications

Not for ophthalmic use.

Side Effects

Local irritation, burning sensation and itching.

Drug Interactions

Antagonism with polyene antibiotics.
