Codeine Phosphate
Codeine Phosphate is an opioid medication used to relieve mild to moderate pain and to reduce coughing. It works by affecting the signals in the brain and nervous system.-Management of mild to moderate pain. -Cough suppression in certain cases.
-Adults: Typically 15-60 mg every 4-6 hours as needed. -Children: Dosage should be determined by a healthcare provider based on the child's weight and condition.
-Hypersensitivity to codeine or any component of the formulation. -Severe respiratory conditions, such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). -Patients with a history of opioid addiction or abuse.
-Use with caution in patients with a history of drug abuse, asthma, or liver/kidney impairment. -Avoid alcohol and other central nervous system depressants. -Monitor for signs of respiratory depression, especially in elderly or debilitated patients.
-Common: Drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, nausea, vomiting. -Serious: Respiratory depression, severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling), confusion, hallucinations.
-May interact with other CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, benzodiazepines), increasing the risk of respiratory depression and sedation. -Can interact with other medications metabolized by the liver (e.g., certain antibiotics, antifungals).
