CYCLOSERINE
It (D-4-amino-3-isoxazolidone) is a broad spectrum antibiotic that is produced from cultures of Streptomyces orchidaceus and Streptomyces garyphalus. It is mainly used as a second line drug for the treatment of tuberculosisPulmonary or extrapulmonary tuberculosis
Cycloserine is administered in doses of 15-20 mg/kg/day [500 mg twice daily]. ( Max.1gm/day, in two divided doses)
Hypersensitivity ,epilepsy, depression or psyshosis renal failure, alcoholics
CNS toxicity, folic acid deficiency, megaloblastic anemia & sideroblastic anemia. Paediatrics: Safety not established. Pregnancy: Contraindicated. Lactation: Contraindicated. Elderly: Use with caution.
Dizziness, headache, termors, nervousness, psychotic states, visual disturbances, seizures.
Alcohol increases the risk of convulsions . Concurrent adminstration of isoniazid may increase the CNS side effects such as dizziness or drowsiness
