Dapoxetine

Dapoxetine

Dapoxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used primarily for the treatment of premature ejaculation in adult men.

Indications

Treatment of premature ejaculation in adult males.

Dosage

Usually taken as needed, approximately 1-3 hours before anticipated sexual activity. The typical starting dose is 30 mg, with adjustments up to 60 mg as tolerated.

Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to dapoxetine or any of its components. -Concurrent use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of discontinuing MAOI therapy. -Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min).

Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with a history of orthostatic hypotension or those taking medications that may lower blood pressure. -Avoid alcohol consumption when taking dapoxetine as it may increase the risk of adverse effects. Monitor for signs of suicidal ideation or behavior, especially in patients with a history of depression.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include nausea, headache, dizziness, insomnia, and fatigue. Less common but more serious side effects may include syncope, serotonin syndrome, and suicidal ideation.

Drug Interactions

Dapoxetine may interact with other medications, particularly those affecting serotonin levels, such as SSRIs, SNRIs, and triptans. Concurrent use with MAOIs or potent CYP3A4 inhibitors should be avoided.
