Daptomycin
Daptomycin is an antibiotic used to treat a range of bacterial infections, particularly those caused by Gram-positive bacteria. It works by disrupting the cell membrane function of bacteria, leading to their death.-Complicated skin and skin structure infections (cSSSI) -Bacteremia and right-sided endocarditis caused by Staphylococcus aureus -Osteomyelitis and septic arthritis caused by Gram-positive organisms
-Adults: Typically, 4 mg/kg IV every 24 hours for complicated skin infections. Dosage adjustments may be required for renal impairment. -Pediatric Patients: Dosage varies based on weight and infection severity.
Hypersensitivity to daptomycin or any component of the formulation.
-Monitor for muscle toxicity; periodic assessment of CPK levels is recommended. -Caution in patients with renal impairment or concurrent use of medications that affect the neuromuscular system.
-Common: Nausea, headache, diarrhea -Serious: Muscle pain, rhabdomyolysis, allergic reactions
-May interact with statins or other medications that can affect muscle function. -Use with caution in combination with other drugs that affect the renal system
