DESAMINO-OXYTOCIN
Desamino-oxytocin is a synthetic analog of oxytocin, a hormone naturally produced by the hypothalamus and released by the pituitary gland. It is used in medical settings primarily for its uterotonic properties, which help stimulate contractions of the uterus.-Induction or augmentation of labor -Management of postpartum hemorrhage -Control of uterine bleeding
The dosage of Desamino-oxytocin should be individualized based on the patient's condition and response to the treatment. It is typically administered intravenously or intramuscularly in a hospital setting under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
-Hypersensitivity to oxytocin or any of its analogs -Conditions where vaginal delivery is contraindicated, such as certain cases of fetal distress, severe preeclampsia, or eclampsia -Patients with significant cephalopelvic disproportion
-Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disorders -Monitor fluid balance to avoid water intoxication -Continuous monitoring of uterine activity and fetal heart rate is recommended during administration
-Nausea and vomiting -Uterine hyperstimulation -Hypotension -Water intoxication -Allergic reactions
-Prostaglandins may potentiate the effect of Desamino-oxytocin, increasing the risk of uterine hyperstimulation. -Concurrent use with other oxytocic agents should be avoided.
