Dextromethorphan Hbr, Chlorpheniramine Maleate, Guaiphenesin, Bromhexine, Pseudoephedrine

This medication is a combination syrup containing dextromethorphan, chlorpheniramine, guaiphenesin, bromhexine, and pseudoephedrine. It is formulated to provide relief from cough, congestion, and other symptoms associated with respiratory conditions.

Indications

-Relief of cough -Relief of nasal congestion -Management of symptoms associated with respiratory tract infections


Dosage

-Adults and children over 12 years: 10ml every 4 to 6 hours, not exceeding 40ml in 24 hours. -Children 6 to 12 years: 5ml every 4 to 6 hours, not exceeding 20ml in 24 hours. -Not recommended for children under 6 years.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients -Severe hypertension -Concurrent use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) -Severe liver or kidney impairment -Glaucoma -Prostatic hypertrophy -Respiratory depression -Pregnancy and breastfeeding


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hyperthyroidism, or renal impairment. -Avoid concurrent use with other medications containing similar ingredients to prevent overdosage. -Use with caution in elderly patients.


Side Effects

-Drowsiness -Dizziness -Dry mouth -Nausea -Vomiting -Headache -Palpitations -Increased heart rate -Hypertension -Urinary retention -Blurred vision


Drug Interactions

-MAOIs: Concurrent use may lead to hypertensive crisis. -Antihypertensive medications: Pseudoephedrine may reduce the efficacy of antihypertensive drugs. -CNS depressants: Increased risk of sedation and respiratory depression when combined with alcohol or other CNS depressants.
