Diacerein
It is an anthrquinone derivative. It inhibits Interiukin-1 (IL-1), an important cytokine implicated in osteoarthritis. Diacerein has beneficial effects on the anabolic processes that occur in the cartilage. It increases the production of transforming growth factor-b (TGF-b) that triggers chondrocyte proliferation and stimulates the production of coilagen, proteoglycans and hyaluronan.Osteoarthritis, Symptomatic relief from deep achy pain, morning stiffness & muscle spasm.
50 mg daily upto maximum of 100 mg/day.
Pregnancy, pediatrics, lactation.
1.Hepatic impairment 2.Renal impairment
Loose motions that get resolved after first 2 weeks of treatment. Discolouration of urine. Skin allergy, rarely occurs.
Concomitant use of prokinetics/laxatives/antacid should be avoided.
