DIPIVEFRINE HYDROCHLORIDE

Dipivefrine is a prodrug of epinephrine formed by the diesterification of epinephrine and privalic acid. Dipivefrine gets hydrolysed enzymatically into epinephrine which is an active drug.

Indications

Chronic open angle glaucoma, other chronic glaucomas (as an adjuvant esp. to b-blockers).

Dosage

One drops of 0.1% sol. twice a dy.

Contra-Indications

Narrow angle glaucoma, hypersensitivity to dipivefrine.

Special Precautions

Aphakic/Pseudophakic conditions, Hypersensitivity and /or intolerance to adrenaline, concurrent medication like indomethacin & ecothiophate. Paediatrics & Elderly: Drug should be used if clearly indicated. Pregnancy& Lactation: Drug should be used if clearly indicated.

Side Effects

Ocular hyperaemia, burning, stinging sensation, follicular conjunctivitis, mydriasis, headache, eye pain, cardiovascular effects.
