Ebastine

It is a long acting, nonsedating, second-generation histamine H2 receptor antagonist that binds preferentially to peripheral H1 receptor in vivo. It has antihistaminic and antiallergic activity and protects asthma patients against histamine-induced bronchoconstriction.

Indications

Seasonal allergic rhinitis, Perennial allergic rhinits and chronic idiopathic urticaria.


Dosage

Ebastine is administered orally, as a single daily dose preferably every morning. 10 mg daily is effective in treatment of allergic rhinitis or chronic idiopathic urticaria. A dose of 5mg daily is advised for children.


Contra-Indications

Cardiac arrhythmias.


Special Precautions

In patients with known QTc prolongation.


Side Effects

No serious adverse reactions were observed.


Drug Interactions

Conconmitant use of ketoconazole or erythromycin should be avoided.
