Eflornithine

Eflornithine is a specific irreversible inhibitor of the enzyme ornithine decarboxylase (ODC).It irreversibly inhibits skin ODC and reduce hair growth. It takes 4-8 week for its onset of action in hirutism.

Indications

Reduction of unwanted facial hair in women.

Dosage

Topical; 13.9% apply over affected area of face and adjacent area twice daily, do not wash face till 4 hour of application.

Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity.

Special Precautions

Paediatric: Safety and efficacy below 12 years not yet established. Pregnancy: Category C. Lactation: Use with caution. Elderly: Use with caution.

Side Effects

Acne, skin reactions from in-growing hair, hair loss, burning, stinging or tingling sensations, dry skin, itching, redness or rash.
