Epoetin alfa
Epoetin alfa is a synthetic form of erythropoietin, a hormone that stimulates the production of red blood cells. It is a biologic medication used to treat anemia in various medical conditions.-Anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) -Anemia in patients with HIV infection treated with zidovudine -Anemia due to chemotherapy in cancer patients -To reduce the need for allogeneic blood transfusions in patients undergoing elective, non-cardiac, non-vascular surgery
-Dosage varies depending on the condition being treated. -For CKD-associated anemia, it may be administered either intravenously or subcutaneously. -For anemia associated with chemotherapy or surgery, it is generally administered subcutaneously. -Dosage adjustments may be needed based on hemoglobin levels.
-Uncontrolled hypertension -Known hypersensitivity to epoetin alfa or any component of the formulation
-Monitor hemoglobin levels regularly to avoid an increased risk of cardiovascular events. -Use caution in patients with a history of seizure disorders. -Assess iron levels and ensure adequate iron stores before initiating treatment. -Increased risk of thromboembolic events.
-Hypertension -Headache -Fatigue -Arthralgia -Nausea -Rash
