ESCITALOPRAM OXALATE

Escitalopram Oxalate is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used to treat depression and anxiety disorders. It works by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain, which helps improve mood and reduce anxiety.

Indications

-Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) -Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) -Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) -Panic Disorder -Social Anxiety Disorder


Dosage

-Adults: Typically 10 mg once daily, which can be increased to 20 mg per day based on response and tolerability. -Elderly: Starting dose is usually 5 mg once daily, with possible gradual increase to 10 mg.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Escitalopram or any other SSRIs. -Concurrent use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). -Use in patients with a history of bipolar disorder or manic episodes.


Special Precautions

-Monitor for suicidal thoughts or behaviors, especially in young adults. -Caution in patients with a history of seizures. -Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment. -Avoid abrupt discontinuation to prevent withdrawal symptoms.


Side Effects

-Common: Nausea, insomnia, fatigue, dizziness, dry mouth, increased sweating. -Serious: Serotonin syndrome, suicidal thoughts, seizures, severe allergic reactions.
