ETHAMSYLATE
Ethamsylate is an effective medicine to prevent or stop bleeding from small blood vessels or capillaries. It is used to prevent or control the loss of excessive amounts of blood during menstrual periods or surgery.Prevention & treatment of capillary haemorrhages associated with (i) Haematemesis, melena, haemoptysis, haematuria, epistaxis (ii) menorrhagia, metrorrhagia, post-abortion & post-partum haemorrhages.
Adults: 250-500 mg thrice daily. Neonates: 12.5 mg/kg every 6 hrs.
Hypersensitivity.
patients with acute porphyria. Paediatrics: Reduced dose necessary. Pregnancy: Use with caution. Lactation: Use with caution. Elderly: Safe.
Headache, rash, nausea. Transient hypotension with i.v. injection.

If a perfusion with Dextran is necessary, Ethamsylate solution must be injected first.
