Ethylmorphine Hcl

Ethylmorphine HCl is a semi-synthetic opioid derived from morphine. It is commonly used as an antitussive (cough suppressant) and in the treatment of moderate to severe pain. The drug works by acting on the central nervous system to reduce the urge to cough and to alleviate pain.

Indications

-Relief of moderate to severe pain -Cough suppression in various respiratory conditions


Dosage

-Adults: Typically, the dose ranges from 10 to 30 mg every 4 to 6 hours as needed for pain or cough suppression. -Children: Dosage should be adjusted according to age, weight, and severity of symptoms. Consult a healthcare professional for appropriate dosing.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to ethylmorphine or any component of the formulation -Respiratory depression -Acute or severe bronchial asthma -Paralytic ileus -Concurrent use with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping such treatment


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with a history of substance abuse -Monitor for signs of respiratory depression, especially in elderly or debilitated patients -Adjust dose in patients with renal or hepatic impairment -Caution in patients with head injury, increased intracranial pressure, or other conditions affecting CNS

Drug Interactions

-Increased risk of CNS depression when used with other CNS depressants such as alcohol, benzodiazepines, or other opioids -Potential interactions with antidepressants (MAO inhibitors, SSRIs, SNRIs) -May interact with medications affecting hepatic enzymes (CYP450 inducers or inhibitors)
