ETHYMSYLATE

Ethamsylate is a haemostatic agent used to reduce bleeding. It works by improving platelet adhesion and restoring capillary resistance. It is often used in conditions where there is an increased risk of bleeding or hemorrhage.

Indications

-Prevention and treatment of capillary bleeding -Menorrhagia (heavy menstrual bleeding) -Postoperative bleeding -Nosebleeds (epistaxis) -Bleeding from gums (gingival bleeding) -Intraventricular hemorrhage in premature infants


Dosage

-Adults: Typically, the dosage is 500 mg to 2 grams per day in divided doses. -Children: Dosage is usually adjusted according to body weight and clinical response. It can be administered orally, intramuscularly, or intravenously as prescribed by the healthcare provider.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Ethamsylate or any of the excipients -Acute porphyria -Hemorrhage due to anticoagulant therapy (without first stopping the anticoagulant)


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with thrombocytopenia or clotting disorders. -Not recommended for use in pregnancy unless clearly needed. -Caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.

-Nausea and vomiting -Headache -Skin rash -Hypotension (low blood pressure) -Hypersensitivity reactions
