Felodipine

Felodipine

It a newer antihypertensive drug requiring only once daily therapy to attain maximum efficacy & tolerability. In combination with b blocker, Felodipine is suitable for mild to moderate hypertension.

Indications

Hypertension.


Dosage

Dose should be adjusted individually. Initiate with 5 mg once daily. Maint 5-10 mg once daily. If necessary dose may be increased or another anti-hypertensive agent added.


Contra-Indications

hypersensitivity to felodipine.


Special Precautions

Women of child bearing potential, nursing mothers. May precipitate hypotension with tachycardia, which may lead to myocardial ischaemia. Paediatrics: Not recommended. Pregnancy: May affect the developing baby. Lactation: To be used if clearly indicated. Elderly: Caution should be taken.


Side Effects

Flushing, headache, palpitation, dizziness or fatigue, ankle oedema.


Drug Interactions

Hypotension potentiated with calcium channel blockers, antihypertensives, phenothiazines and tricyclic antidepressants. Increases bioavailability of dihydroergotamines. Alcohol causes hypotension and collapse.
