Fluocinolone

Fluocinolone is a potent topical corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation, redness, and swelling in various dermatologic conditions. It works by suppressing the immune response and reducing the production of inflammatory substances in the skin.

Indications

-Dermatitis: Eczema, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis -Psoriasis: Plaque psoriasis, pustular psoriasis -Lichen Planus -Seborrheic Dermatitis


Dosage

-Adult Dosage: Apply a thin layer of Fluocinolone cream or ointment to the affected area once or twice daily, as directed by a healthcare provider. -Pediatric Dosage: Use with caution; generally, it is applied once daily to the affected area.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity: Avoid use in individuals with known hypersensitivity to Fluocinolone or any component of the formulation. -Infections: Not recommended for use in untreated bacterial, viral, or fungal infections of the skin.


Special Precautions

-Pregnancy and Lactation: Consult a healthcare provider before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. -Prolonged Use: Avoid prolonged use or applying large amounts, especially in children or on large areas, as it may lead to systemic absorption. -Occlusive Dressings: Avoid using occlusive dressings unless instructed by a healthcare provider.


Side Effects

-Common: Burning, itching, dryness, or redness at the application site. -Less Common: Striae (stretch marks), thinning of the skin, telangiectasia (dilated blood vessels), secondary infections.


Drug Interactions

-Topical Products: Avoid concurrent use with other topical products on the same area. -Systemic Corticosteroids: Caution if used concurrently with systemic corticosteroids to avoid additive effects.
