Fluoride

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral used in various dental care products to prevent tooth decay. It helps in the remineralization of enamel and reduces the incidence of cavities.

Indications

-Prevention of dental caries -Strengthening of tooth enamel -Treatment of dental hypersensitivity


Dosage

-Children (6 months to 16 years): Dosage varies based on age and fluoride content in drinking water. Usually ranges from 0.25 mg to 1 mg daily. -Adults: Typically, fluoride is applied topically through toothpaste or mouth rinse, with specific recommendations by dental professionals.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to fluoride -Areas with high natural fluoride levels in drinking water (above 0.7 ppm)


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in children under 6 years to avoid dental fluorosis. -Ensure the correct dosage to avoid fluoride toxicity. -Regular dental check-ups to monitor fluoride levels.


Side Effects

-Dental fluorosis (in children during teeth development) -Gastrointestinal discomfort (if ingested in large amounts) -Allergic reactions (rare)


Drug Interactions
