Flupenthixol Hydrochloride is a potent antipsychotic medication belonging to the thioxanthene class. It is primarily used to treat schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. It works by affecting the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain.

Indications

-Schizophrenia -Other psychotic disorders -Depression (in combination with other medications)


Dosage

-Adults: The dosage varies depending on the condition being treated and the response of the patient. Common starting dose for schizophrenia is 1-2 mg daily, which can be adjusted based on clinical response. -Elderly: Lower doses may be required due to increased sensitivity. -Children: Not recommended.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to flupenthixol or any of its components -Severe CNS depression -Coma -Patients with circulatory collapse


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular diseases, hepatic impairment, or renal impairment. -Monitor for signs of neuroleptic malignant syndrome. -Caution in patients with a history of seizures. -Not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation unless clearly needed.

Drug Interactions

-CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, sedatives) may increase sedative effects. -Antihypertensives may enhance hypotensive effects. -Anticholinergics may reduce the effects of flupenthixol. -Caution with other medications that prolong QT interval.
