Framycetin

Framycetin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic used topically to treat bacterial infections. It is effective against a variety of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Indications

-Treatment of superficial infections of the skin and mucous membranes caused by susceptible bacteria. -Used in conditions such as conjunctivitis, external ear infections, and other minor skin infections.


Dosage

-For external use: Apply a thin layer to the affected area 2-4 times daily. -For eye infections: Apply 1-2 drops to the affected eye(s) every 4-6 hours, or as directed by a healthcare provider.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to framycetin or any of its components. -Not recommended for use in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to aminoglycoside antibiotics


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with a history of allergic reactions or those with impaired renal function. -Avoid prolonged use to prevent the risk of developing resistant organisms. -Consult a healthcare provider before use if pregnant or breastfeeding.


Side Effects

-Local irritation or allergic reactions at the application site, including redness, itching, or rash. -Rarely, systemic absorption can occur leading to potential ototoxicity or nephrotoxicity.


Drug Interactions

-Avoid concurrent use with other nephrotoxic or ototoxic drugs. -Minimal systemic absorption reduces the likelihood of significant drug interactions.
