Framycetin Sulfate is an antibiotic that belongs to the aminoglycoside group. It is commonly used to treat bacterial infections, particularly those on the skin. This medication works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, leading to the elimination of the bacteria.

Indications

-Skin infections such as impetigo and infected eczema -Ear infections -Wound infections -Burns -Ulcers


Dosage

-Skin infections: Apply a thin layer to the affected area 2-3 times daily. -Ear infections: Administer as per the doctor's instructions, usually a few drops into the affected ear 2-3 times daily.


Contra-Indications

Framycetin Sulfate should not be used in individuals with: -Hypersensitivity to Framycetin or other aminoglycosides -Viral or fungal infections of the skin


Special Precautions

-Avoid contact with the eyes. -Use with caution in patients with extensive burns or lesions, as this may increase systemic absorption. -Not recommended for prolonged use due to potential development of antibiotic resistance.


Side Effects

Possible side effects include: -Local irritation or rash -Allergic reactions -Ototoxicity (if used in the ear)


Drug Interactions

Framycetin Sulfate may interact with other medications, including: -Other aminoglycosides, increasing the risk of ototoxicity -Diuretics, which may enhance nephrotoxic effects
