GLYCOPYRROLATE

It is a potent and rapidly acting antimuscarinic lacking central effects. Almost exclusively used for preanaesthetic medication and during anaesthesia.

Indications

Anticholinergic to be used as a part of anaesthetic regimen before, during & after surgery.


Dosage

0.1-0.3 mg i.m.


Special Precautions

Cardiovascular disease. Hyperthyroidism. prostatic enlargement. Severe hepatic or renal impairment. Paediatrics: Safety not established under 12 year. Not recommended in infants below 1 month. Pregnancy: Use with caution. Lactation: Use with caution. Elderly: Use with caution.


Side Effects

Atropine-like effects. Anaphylaxis.


Drug Interactions

Increased ventricular arrhythmia with cyclopropane.
