GUARGUM GRANULES

GUARGUM GRANULES

Guargum contains a high molecular weight hydrocolloidal polysaccharide. After ingestion, it forms a viscous gel in the gastro-intestinal tract which slows carbohydrate absorption & thus reduces postprandial blood glucose peaks. This stabilisation of blood glucose levels, after meals, leads to greater diabetic control and may subsequently enable a reduction to be made in insulin or oral hypoglycaemic dosage levels.

Indications

As an adjunct to insuin or oral hypoglycaemics.

Contra-Indications

Not recommended for children. History of oesophageal disease or difficulty in swallowing. Not ingest as dry granules.

Side Effects

Nausea, feeling of fullness and loss of appetite, flatulence, diarrhoea and related gastro, intestinal disturbances.
