HEPATITIS B SURFACE ANTIGEN PROTEIN

Each 1 ml dose contains 20 mcg of hepatitis B surface antigen protein.

Indications

Active immunization against hepatitis B virus infection.


Dosage

For intramuscular use only. In adults the injection should be given in the deltoid region, in neonates and in infants ‘Engerix’-B should be administered in the anterolateral thigh. To be shaken well before use. A dose of 20 mcg of antigen protein is recommended for adults and children 10 years of age and older. A dose of 10 mcg of antigen protein in 0.4 ml suspension is recommended for neonates, infants and children below 10 years of age although a dose of 20 mcg may also be used when a paediatr


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitive to any component of the vaccine, severe febrile infections.


Special Precautions

Pregnant women. Adrenaline 1:1000 should be available for rare anaphylactic reaction.


Side Effects

Mild transient soreness, erythema and induration at injection site. Occasionally low grade fever, malaise, fatigue, headache, nausea and dizziness.
