HIGHLY PURIFIED BIPHASIC INSULIN
Highly Purified Biphasic Insulin is a combination of insulin analogs designed to mimic the body's natural pattern of insulin release. It typically consists of a mixture of rapid-acting and intermediate-acting insulin to provide both immediate and sustained blood glucose control. This formulation is highly purified to minimize the risk of allergic reactions and other impurities.-Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 -Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 requiring insulin therapy
-The dosage of Highly Purified Biphasic Insulin is individualized based on the patient's metabolic needs, blood glucose monitoring results, and glycemic control goal. -Typical initial dose: 0.5 to 1.0 units/kg/day, administered subcutaneously before meals. -Adjustments should be made based on regular blood glucose monitoring and HbA1c levels.
-Hypersensitivity to insulin or any of the excipients in the formulation -Episodes of hypoglycemia
-Monitor blood glucose levels regularly to avoid hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia. -Caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment. -Adjustments may be necessary during periods of increased stress or illness. -Educate patients on recognizing and managing hypoglycemia. -Rotate injection sites to prevent lipodystrophy.
-Hypoglycemia (most common) -Injection site reactions (e.g., redness, swelling, itching) -Lipodystrophy (fatty tissue changes at the injection site) -Weight gain -Edema -Allergic reactions (rare)
-Beta-blockers may mask hypoglycemia symptoms. -Corticosteroids, thyroid hormones, and sympathomimetics may reduce the hypoglycemic effect. -Alcohol may enhance or decrease the hypoglycemic effect. -Other antidiabetic agents may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used concomitantly.
