HYDRO PROGESTERONE CAPORATE

Hydroxyprogesterone Caproate is a synthetic progestin used primarily in the prevention of preterm birth in pregnant women with a history of spontaneous preterm birth. It is also used in the treatment of conditions associated with low levels of progesterone.

Indications

-Prevention of preterm birth in women with a history of spontaneous preterm birth -Secondary amenorrhea -Abnormal uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance -Endometrial carcinoma


Dosage

-For the prevention of preterm birth: 250 mg intramuscularly once weekly, starting between 16 and 20 weeks of gestation and continuing until 37 weeks or delivery. -For other indications, follow the physician's specific prescription guidelines.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to hydroxyprogesterone caproate or any of its components -Current or history of thrombosis or thromboembolic disorders -Known or suspected breast cancer -Undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding -Liver dysfunction or disease


Special Precautions

-Monitor for signs of thromboembolic disorders -Use cautiously in patients with a history of depression -Not recommended for use in women with severe uncontrolled hypertension -Regularly monitor liver function during treatment


Side Effects

-Injection site reactions (pain, swelling) -Nausea -Diarrhea -Abdominal pain -Headache -Dizziness -Depression or mood swings -Thromboembolic events


Drug Interactions

-May interact with anticoagulants, increasing the risk of bleeding -Potential interaction with CYP3A4 inhibitors or inducers -Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking to avoid adverse interactions
