HYDROXY PROGESTERONE CAPORATE

Hydroxyprogesterone Caproate is a synthetic form of the hormone progesterone used to reduce the risk of preterm birth in women with a history of preterm delivery.

Indications

-Prevention of preterm birth in women with a history of preterm delivery. -Management of certain gynecological conditions where progesterone therapy is indicated.


Dosage

Typically administered as a 250 mg intramuscular injection once weekly from the 16th to the 36th week of pregnancy.


Contra-Indications

-Known hypersensitivity to hydroxyprogesterone caproate or any component of the formulation. -History of or current blood clots (thrombophlebitis). -Liver disease or liver tumors. -Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding.


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with a history of depression. -Monitor for signs of venous thromboembolism. -Avoid use in women with severe liver dysfunction.


Side Effects

-Common: Injection site reactions, nausea, headache, abdominal pain. -Serious: Deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, liver problems, allergic reactions.


Drug Interactions

-May interact with other hormonal therapies. -Use cautiously with anticoagulants and other medications that affect blood clotting.
