Ibandronate Sodium
Ibandronate Sodium is a bisphosphonate medication used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It works by slowing down the rate of bone loss and increasing bone density, reducing the risk of fractures.-Treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. -Management of osteoporosis in men. -Prevention of osteoporosis in patients undergoing long-term glucocorticoid therapy.
The typical dosage for Ibandronate Sodium is 150 mg orally once monthly or 3 mg intravenously every 3 months.
-Hypersensitivity to bisphosphonates or any component of the formulation. -Inability to stand or sit upright for at least 60 minutes after administration. -Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min).
-Patients with gastrointestinal disorders. -Patients with hypocalcemia. -History of upper gastrointestinal disease. -Dental procedures should be avoided during treatment due to the risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw. -Adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D is recommended.
Common side effects may include gastrointestinal discomfort (nausea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia), musculoskeletal pain, headache, and flu-like symptoms. Rare but serious side effects include osteonecrosis of the jaw and atypical femur fractures.
Ibandronate Sodium may interact with other medications, including calcium supplements, antacids, and certain medications that affect renal function. Concurrent use with NSAIDs or aspirin may increase the risk of gastrointestinal adverse effects.
