IDOXURIDINE

Idoxuridine is an antiviral medication used to treat herpes simplex virus infections of the eye. It works by inhibiting the replication of viral DNA, thus reducing the severity and spread of the infection.

Indications

-Herpes simplex keratitis -Herpes simplex conjunctivitis


Dosage

-Apply one drop of idoxuridine ophthalmic solution into the affected eye every hour while awake. -During nighttime, apply every two hours. -Continue treatment for at least 7 days after healing has been observed.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to idoxuridine or any component of the formulation. -Not recommended for use in viral infections of the eye caused by viruses other than herpes simplex.


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with severe dry eye or corneal diseases. -Prolonged use can result in ocular toxicity. -Regular monitoring by an ophthalmologist is recommended during treatment. -Avoid contact lens wear during treatment unless directed by a physician.


Side Effects

-Eye irritation or discomfort -Temporary blurred vision -Redness or swelling of the eye -Itching or burning sensation


Drug Interactions

Concurrent use with other ophthalmic medications may result in additive irritation or toxicity. Use medications sequentially and allow sufficient time between applications.
