Indacaterol
Indacaterol is a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA) used primarily in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It works by relaxing the muscles around the airways, making it easier to breathe. Indacaterol is known for its once-daily dosing and rapid onset of action.-Maintenance treatment of airflow obstruction in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. -Not indicated for the relief of acute bronchospasm or asthma unless used with a long-term asthma control medication.
-For COPD: Typically, 150 mcg once daily via inhalation. -For Asthma: Often combined with other medications, such as inhaled corticosteroids, in specific dosages depending on the treatment plan.
-Known hypersensitivity to Indacaterol or any of its excipients. -Patients with severe asthma who are not using long-term asthma control medications. -Acute episodes of COPD requiring intensive treatment.
-Monitor patients with cardiovascular disorders, such as ischemic heart disease, arrhythmias, and hypertension. -Caution in patients with seizures, thyrotoxicosis, or diabetes mellitus. -Avoid over-reliance; use only as prescribed and not for acute symptom relief. -Regularly assess the necessity of continuing therapy in stable COPD.
-Common: Headache, dizziness, nasopharyngitis -Serious: Chest pain, palpitations, tremors, paradoxical bronchospasm, allergic reactions (swelling of the face, lips, or throat)
-Beta-blockers (may reduce the efficacy of indacaterol) -Diuretics (may increase risk of hypokalemia) -Other sympathomimetic drugs (increased risk of cardiovascular side effects)
