INH

(INH) is a medication used primarily for the treatment of tuberculosis (TB). It works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria responsible for the disease.

Indications

-Active tuberculosis (TB) infection -Latent tuberculosis infection (in combination with other drugs) -Preventive therapy in high-risk individuals


Dosage

-Adult Dosage: 300 mg once daily -Pediatric Dosage: Adjusted based on body weight and age


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to isoniazid or any component of the formulation -Severe liver disease -Acute liver injury or hepatitis


Special Precautions

-Monitor liver function regularly during treatment -Caution in patients with a history of alcohol abuse -Use with care in patients with renal impairment or epilepsy


Side Effects

-Common: Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite -Serious: Hepatitis, peripheral neuropathy, hypersensitivity reactions -Rare: Drug-induced lupus, psychiatric disturbances


Drug Interactions

-May interact with alcohol, increasing the risk of liver damage -May decrease the efficacy of antiepileptic drugs -Caution with other drugs metabolized by the liver
