Iron III Polymaltose

Iron III Polymaltose is an iron supplement used to treat and prevent iron deficiency anemia. It is a complex of ferric hydroxide and polymaltose, designed to provide a stable and easily absorbable form of iron.

Indications

-Treatment of iron deficiency anemia -Prevention of iron deficiency in high-risk groups (pregnant women, children, elderly) -Supplement for iron requirements in patients with chronic blood loss


Dosage

-Adults: 1-2 tablets or 10-20 ml of oral solution daily -Children: As directed by a healthcare provider, typically 1 tablet or 5-10 ml of oral solution daily -Dosage may vary based on the severity of iron deficiency and patient response


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Iron III Polymaltose or any of its components -Iron overload disorders (e.g., hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis) -Anemia not caused by iron deficiency


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with peptic ulcer, inflammatory bowel disease, or gastrointestinal disorders -Monitor serum iron levels and adjust dosage accordingly -Pregnant and breastfeeding women should use under medical supervision


Side Effects

-Gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, constipation, diarrhea) -Dark stools -Allergic reactions (rash, itching) -Rarely, gastrointestinal irritation or ulceration


Drug Interactions

-Antacids and certain antibiotics (e.g., tetracyclines, quinolones) can reduce iron absorption -Vitamin C can enhance iron absorption -Avoid concurrent use with other iron supplements
