Isoprenaline sulphate

Isoprenaline Sulphate is a synthetic sympathomimetic amine that acts primarily on beta-adrenergic receptors. It is used to stimulate the heart in cases of bradycardia (slow heart rate) or heart block and to manage certain types of asthma and bronchospasm.

Indications

-Management of bradycardia -Heart block -Bronchial asthma -Bronchospasm during anesthesia


Dosage

-Intravenous: 0.02-0.1 mg administered slowly -Inhalation: 0.2-0.8 mg every 4 hours as needed


Contra-Indications

-Tachyarrhythmias -Digitalis-induced tachycardia -Hypersensitivity to isoprenaline or any of its components


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular diseases, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, and those receiving other sympathomimetic drugs. -Monitor blood pressure, heart rate, and ECG continuously during intravenous administration.


Side Effects

-Tachycardia -Palpitations -Tremors -Headache -Dizziness -Nausea -Dry mouth


Drug Interactions

-May interact with beta-blockers, resulting in reduced efficacy -Increased risk of arrhythmias when used with digitalis or quinidine -Concurrent use with MAO inhibitors may lead to severe hypertensive reactions
