ISOPROPAMIDE

It is antisecretory, synthetic antcholingeric drug useful for gastrointestinal problems associated with emotional/mental disorders.

Indications

Gastritis, peptic ulcer, hyperacidity. Nervous dyspepsia & other G.I. disorders particularly caused or complicated by mental/emotional factors.


Dosage

5 mg twice daily.


Contra-Indications

Glaucoma, sensitivity to iodine, bone marrow depression. Liver damage. Severe ulcerative colitis. Pyloric stenosis. Intestinal obstruction atony, prostatic hypertrophy.


Special Precautions

Cardiovascular disease. Parkinsonism. Avoid operating machinery or driving. epilepsy. Paediatrics: Use with caution. Pregnancy: Use with caution. Lactation: Use with caution. Elderly: Reduced dose necessary.


Side Effects

Constipation, tachycardia, dry mouth, blurred vision, insomnia. Isopropamide combines well with Trifluoperazine to give the desired results.


Drug Interactions

Additive effect with amantidine & some Anti histamines, Pheothiazines and Tricyclic antidepresants. Reduction in gastric motility and reduces absorption of other drugs.
