Ketoprofen

All have similar pharmacodynamic properties but vary considerably in potency & to some extent in duration of action.

Indications

-Acute pain -Chronic pain conditions such as arthritis -Menstrual pain -Postoperative pain -Fever reduction


Dosage

-Adults: Typically, 25-50 mg taken orally every 6-8 hours, not exceeding 300 mg per day. For chronic conditions, the dose may vary based on the specific condition and patient response. -Children: Dosage should be determined by a healthcare professional based on the child’s weight and condition.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Ketoprofen or other NSAIDs -Active gastrointestinal bleeding or ulceration -Severe hepatic or renal impairment -Pregnancy (particularly in the third trimester) -History of allergic reactions to NSAIDs


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disorders, cardiovascular disease, or renal impairment. -Monitor for signs of gastrointestinal bleeding, cardiovascular events, and renal function. -Avoid concurrent use with other NSAIDs or anticoagulants.


Side Effects

-Common: Gastrointestinal upset, nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness. -Serious: Gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration, renal impairment, cardiovascular events.


Drug Interactions

Aspirin displaces Ibuprofen from serum binding sites,reduces serum levels of Ketoprofen enhances effects of oral anticoagulants, phenytoin, methotrexate, sulphonamides, sulphonylurea hypoglycaemics & Probenecid increases their concentration
