Ketorolac with Tramadol

Ketorolac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the short-term treatment of moderate to severe pain. Tramadol is an opioid analgesic used for the management of moderate to moderately severe pain.

Indications

-It is indicated for the management of acute pain and inflammation. -It is indicated for the relief of pain and can be used for both acute and chronic pain conditions.


Dosage

-Ketorolac: The usual adult dose is 10 mg every 4-6 hours, not to exceed 40 mg in a 24-hour period. The duration of use should be limited to 5 days. - Tramadol: The usual dose is 50-100 mg every 4-6 hours as needed for pain relief. The maximum recommended dose is 400 mg per day.


Contra-Indications

-Contraindications include a history of peptic ulcer disease, recent gastrointestinal bleeding, or hypersensitivity to NSAIDs. - Contraindications include hypersensitivity to tramadol, history of seizures, and use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).


Special Precautions

- Caution should be exercised in patients with renal impairment, heart failure, and those at risk of bleeding. It should be used with caution in the elderly. -Caution is advised in patients with a history of substance abuse, respiratory depression, and in those taking other central nervous system depressants.


Side Effects

-Common side effects include gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, and headache. Serious side effects may include gastrointestinal bleeding, renal impairment, and allergic reactions. -Common side effects include dizziness, nausea, constipation, and headache. Serious side effects may include respiratory depression, seizures, and serotonin syndrome.


Drug Interactions

The combination of ketorolac and tramadol may increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding and other side effects. Careful monitoring is required when using these medications together.
