Levonorgestrel

This contraception can be used as soon as possible, preferably within 12 hours and no later than a period of 72 hours (3 days) after the unprotected sexual intercourse.

Dosage

The treatment necessitates the intake of two tablets. The first tablet must be taken as soon as possible, preferably within 12 hours, after the unprotected intercourse and no longer than within 72 hours (3 days) after the intercourse. The second tablet should be taken between 12 hours at the earliest and 24 hours at the latest, after the first tablet intake.

Contra-Indications

Levonorgestrel should not be used in individuals with known hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components. It is also contraindicated in women who are already pregnant or have a history of ectopic pregnancy.

Special Precautions

Hypersensitivity. Suspected pregnancy, undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding.

Side Effects

Nausea and vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, headache, abdominal pain, a feeling of breast tenderness.

Drug Interactions

Certain medications, such as enzyme-inducing drugs like rifampicin and some antiepileptic drugs, may decrease the effectiveness of levonorgestrel. Patients should consult their healthcare provider for advice on potential drug interactions.
