Lomefloxacin

It is a difluorinated 4- quinolone antibacterial agent for oral administration.The bactericidal action of lomefloxacin results from interference with the activity of the bacterial enzyme DNA gyrase, which is needed for the transcription and replication of bacterial DNA.

Indications

Mild to moderate infections of respiratory tract, uncomplicated and complicated urinary tract infections.


Dosage

Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis: 400 mg once daily for 10 days. Cystitis: 400 mg once daily for 10 days. Complicated Urinary Tract infections: 400 mg once daily for 14 days.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity.


Special Precautions

C.N.S disorders, Pseudo-membranous colitis. Paediatrics: Safety not established. Pregnancy: Safety not established. Lactation: Safety not established. Elderly: No special problem.


Side Effects

Nausea, headache, photosensitivity, dizziness, diarrhoea.


Drug Interactions

Antacids containing aluminium and magnesium, sucralfate, and iron preparations reduce its absorption and bioavailability. Enhances effect of warfarin.
