Magnesium Carbonate (Light) is a white, odorless, tasteless powder with a chalky texture. It is commonly used as an antacid and a laxative and is also found in various pharmaceutical and dietary supplements.

Indications

-Relief of heartburn and indigestion -Treatment of magnesium deficiency -Used as a laxative for short-term relief of constipation -Dietary supplement to support overall health


Dosage

-Adults: Typically, 500 mg to 1 g taken 1-4 times daily, or as directed by a healthcare provider. -Children: Dosage should be determined by a healthcare provider.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to magnesium carbonate or any of its components -Severe renal impairment or failure -Hypermagnesemia -Intestinal obstruction or perforation


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with renal insufficiency. -Monitor magnesium levels in patients on long-term therapy. -Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a healthcare provider before use. -Not recommended for prolonged use without medical supervision.


Side Effects

-Diarrhea -Stomach upset -Nausea -Vomiting -Hypermagnesemia (rare, but serious)


Drug Interactions

-May interact with certain antibiotics (e.g., tetracyclines, quinolones) reducing their effectiveness. -Can affect the absorption of bisphosphonates. -Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
