Magnesium Trisilicate

Magnesium Trisilicate is a medication used primarily as an antacid. It works by neutralizing stomach acid to relieve symptoms of indigestion, heartburn, and acid reflux.

Indications

-Relief of heartburn -Treatment of indigestion -Alleviation of acid reflux symptoms -Symptomatic relief of gastric ulcer pain


Dosage

-Adults: Typically 1 to 2 teaspoons (5-10 mL) of suspension, 1 hour after meals and at bedtime, or as directed by a healthcare provider. -Children: Dosage should be determined by a healthcare provider based on age and weight.


Contra-Indications

-Renal Impairment: Should be used cautiously in individuals with kidney problems. -Hypersensitivity: Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to magnesium trisilicate or any of its components.


Special Precautions

-Pregnancy and Lactation: Consult a healthcare provider before use if pregnant or breastfeeding. -Kidney Disease: Use with caution in patients with kidney disease due to potential accumulation of magnesium. -Other Medications: Ensure there are no interactions with other medications the patient is taking.


Side Effects

-Constipation -Diarrhea -Nausea -Abdominal cramps -Rare: Allergic reactions such as rash or itching


Drug Interactions

-Antibiotics: May interfere with the absorption of certain antibiotics, such as tetracyclines. -Iron Supplements: Can affect the absorption of iron. -Other Antacids: Combining with other antacids can lead to an increased risk of side effects.
