MIDODRINE
Midodrine is an alpha-adrenergic agonist that works by constricting blood vessels, thereby increasing blood pressure. It is commonly used to treat orthostatic hypotension, a condition where blood pressure drops upon standing.-Orthostatic hypotension -Low blood pressure due to certain medical conditions
-Adult: Typically 2.5 mg to 10 mg taken orally, 2-3 times daily during daytime hours. -Dosage may vary based on medical condition and patient response. -Should be taken during the day and not within 4 hours of bedtime to avoid supine hypertension.
-Severe heart disease -Acute kidney disease -Urinary retention -Thyrotoxicosis -Pheochromocytoma -Hypersensitivity to Midodrine or any of its components
-Monitor blood pressure regularly to avoid supine hypertension. -Use with caution in patients with diabetes or glaucoma. -Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless necessary. -Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until the drug’s effects are known.
-Increased blood pressure (supine hypertension) -Piloerection (goosebumps) -Chills -Itching or tingling sensation -Urinary urgency or retention -Headache -Dizziness -Nausea
-May interact with other vasopressors or alpha-adrenergic agonists. -Use with caution with heart medications, including beta-blockers and digitalis. -Can interact with corticosteroids and thyroid hormones. -Avoid combining with MAO inhibitors.
